Campo Robotics: FTC Team 524 Boss Bots at Campolindo High School, Moraga, CA

Campo Robotics

Team 524 · Boss Bots · est. 2007

We are Campolindo's FIRST Tech Challenge team. Every fall a new game drops; we design, build, code and drive a robot to play it against schools across Northern California.

Twelve awards since 2019, including the Inspire Award, the highest award in FTC.

Teamwork

Core value

Nobody builds a robot alone. Programmers, builders, CAD and marketing all depend on each other every week.

You will find your people here.

Curiosity

Core value

Why did the lift stall? Why is the camera 40 ms late? We chase questions like that until we understand them.

That is the whole job.

Grit

Core value

Things break. The arm sags, the code crashes at 11 pm the night before a tournament.

We fix it, test it, and go again.

Gracious Professionalism

Core value · straight from FIRST

Compete hard, respect everyone, help the team next to you when their robot dies.

At tournaments we lend parts, tools and time to other teams. They do the same for us.

What is Robotics?

FIRST Tech Challenge

A student-led team that designs, builds and codes a robot to compete in the FIRST Tech Challenge.

Four sub-teams: Programming (Java, autonomous, vision), Mechanics (drivetrain, lifts, claws), CAD (SolidWorks / Onshape) and Marketing (outreach, sponsors, the engineering portfolio).

You pick one. You can switch.

Benefits

Learn real engineering with real tools, not a kit.

Build and drive a competition robot at 2-3 tournaments a season.

Community service hours from outreach, and a project that stands out on college apps.

Requirements

Have fun.

Be open minded.

Show up: Mondays at lunch, Thursdays after school.

No experience needed. Seriously. Most of us started with zero.

Build

Thursdays, garage sessions, library sessions

We build the robot from aluminum channel, 3D-printed parts and a lot of zip ties.

Garage sessions give us a bigger space and extra hours before tournaments.

Compete

2-3 tournaments every season

Qualifying tournaments across NorCal. Drive team, pit crew, scouts, and judges interviews.

Last season: Think Award, 2nd place.

Outreach

Girl Scouts · science fairs · local schools

We run robotics workshops for 10+ Girl Scout troops and show up at Rheem and Joaquin Moraga science fairs.

Teaching a 4th grader to code a robot is the best part of the year.

Meetings

Room T2

Mondays at lunch: plan the week.

Thursdays after school: build, code, test, and plan outreach.

First meeting of the year is announced on the club Discord and at school.
